A Musical Journey Where Medicine Meets the Heartbeat of Humanity
Our Healing Harmonies is a visionary concept album from the pioneering collaboration between cardiologist-songwriter Dr. Samson Tak-sun Tse (TS@Hurdles) and music producer Barry Chung, where clinical expertise meets melodic storytelling. It reframes healing as a shared human mission—uniting medicine and music in pursuit of hope, empathy, and renewal.
They deliver the songs and messages through their own amateur medical band “Hurdles”. The name symbolizes life’s hurdles, overcome with faith and resilient will.
Each track tells a story of care, perseverance, medicine’s deeper humanity, and a doctor’s mission of public education:
• One Hundred and Ten per Minute transforms CPR guidelines into a catchy, unforgettable lifesaving rhythm anthem.
• Heart Primeval and Legacy and Voyage perfectly blend medical history, professional values, and personal mission, offering lyrical reflections on purpose and future aspirations. The instrumental (Legacy and Voyage) masterfully fuses Eastern and Western instruments, mirroring the iconic architecture of the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences—the embodiment of Hong Kong’s fusion traditions as the Pearl of the Orient.
• Life Race uses running as a metaphor for life, emphasizing the keys to success.
• Blue Eyes and Thanks for Being with Me celebrate gratitude and human connection.
More than an album, this masterpiece embodies medicine-music unity—an exploration of seven core values through lyrics and melody: Belief We Are Hurdles, Original Intent Heart Primeval, Perseverance Life Race, Compassion One Hundred and Ten per Minute, Appreciation Blue Eyes, Hope Legacy and Voyage, Gratitude Thanks for Being with Me.
In a world marked by uncertainty, hardship, and distance, our music stands as a gentle light—bridging hearts, healing wounds, and reminding humanity that harmonies can soften the rhythms of fear and tension.
這專輯透過醫樂合一,透過曲詞探索七大核心價值:信念《We Are Hurdles》、初心《初心 Heart Primeval》、堅毅《人生競技賽 Life Race》、關懷《一百一每分 One Hundred and Ten per Minute》、欣賞《藍眼睛 Blue Eyes》、希望《傳承・啟航 Legacy and Voyage》、感恩《感激你伴我行 Thanks for Being with Me》。
We Are Hurdles—Band manifesto and theme song. Tells the world Hurdles’ story, motto, and concept: bringing positive energy and medical knowledge through music.
Dual Lives
This track reveals who we are—doctors by day, musicians by heart. When we put down white coats and pick up guitars, medicine doesn’t end—it extends through melody.
Healing Mission
We want to create our own harmonies, carrying healing, hope, and humanity to every listener—transforming clinical expertise into accessible, uplifting anthems that educate and inspire. We BELIEVE we can accomplish this mission, and we see our song as the promise to keep serving through both medicine and music.

As a child I admired those who played music with ease, loving Tai Chí’s tunes and Beyond’s melodies.Sadly, I was born with no sense of rhythm. With silver hair, I chase my dream again, never thought I’d write lyrics with this pen.Fortunate to have you who created this beautiful melody, grateful to my teammates, whose hearts made the journey whole. Our name reflects life’s truth, though hurdles rise anew,we share one faith, one heart, together we’ll see it through. We are Hurdles,we are, we are Hurdles! We are Hurdles,we are, we are Hurdles!Take off the white coat, lay the scalpel aside, pick up the guitar, and sing what’s deep inside.Music sends our message far and wide, may the world shine bright with love and pride,as together we cross each stride. We are Hurdles,we are, we are Hurdles! We are Hurdles,we are, we are Hurdles! We are Hurdles,we are, we are Hurdles! We are Hurdles,we are, we are Hurdles! We are Hurdles!
初心 (Heart Primeval)
15th Anniversary song of HKSTENT (Hong Kong Society of Transcatheter Endo-cardiovascular Therapeutics)
Heart Primeval (初心) serves as theme song for HKSTENT’s (Hong Kong Society of Transcatheter Endo-cardiovascular Therapeutics) 15th Anniversary—founded in 2010 by a group of young interventional cardiologists from different public hospitals in Hong Kong. Through case sharing and annual Cardiovascular Intervention Complication Forum (CICF), they advance standards via collective learning from others.
Inspiration Narrative
The lyricist is one of the founding council members of the society. Looking back, the society’s predecessor was simply a group of “young” interventional cardiologists from different public hospitals in Hong Kong, who regularly shared their own cases in the hope of learning from each other and improving their operative skills. Most doctors tend to avoid talking about their own cases that did not go well, yet they openly shared them without hesitation—precisely to help shorten the learning curve, so others could learn and everyone could grow together. This precisely, is the original intent behind how we live and practice.
HKSTENT was officially founded on 20 November 2010, and its annual conference, CICF, has always stayed true to this “original intent”, using real life case discussions of complications to foster mutual learning and continuous improvement in both technical skill and compassionate care. Over time, this annual meeting has grown into one of the major interventional cardiology conferences in Asia.
Philosophical Core
The piece embodies unwavering commitment amid professional evolution. Heart Primeval honors the journey of dedication, resilience, and generational mentorship—the eternal flame propelling doctors toward greater heights for patients and humanity.
Signature Mantra
“Never forget your ORIGINAL INTENT, no matter what you have achieved.”
My heart primeval, as ever unchanged;tired not of braving grave hardship. Our hopes and ideals, we together explore,For sweeter sweet dreams to be in dream once more. When young I was unmellowed Knew but to dash head on.Today I have mellowed Able to both charge and guard. My last ten years, on reflection,Have had no regrets, no plaints. My heart primeval forgotten not.Let the fire and its torchlight, ever pass on.Through years the state of mind changes,Tempered by times bitter or sweet. Our hopes and ideals, we together strive. For the best of the world to duly arise, arrive. When young I was unmellowed Knew but to dash head on.Today I have mellowed Able to both charge and guard. My last ten years, on reflection,Have had no regrets, no plaints. My heart primeval forgotten not.Let the fire and its torchlight, ever pass on.To succeed: Afraid not of failures! To gain: No pain, no gain!Together we explore, through discussions on paper;Together we strive, condensing our wise insights. My last ten years, on reflection,Have had no regrets, no plaints. My heart primeval forgotten not.Let the fire and its torchlight, ever pass on and on.Let the glorious light keep shining, to shine forevermore.
(Life Race)
World Heart Day 2025-26 Carnival cum Run for Heart performance song
Using running and marathon as a metaphor for life’s journey, the song portrays the ups and downs, fatigue, falls, and getting back up again, culminating in an all-out sprint toward the finish line—symbolizing never giving up on life and achieving self-breakthrough.
Inspiration Narrative
Inspired by the lyricist’s personal ankle surgery recovery—from rehabilitation to inaugural full marathon completion—the track distils profound existential wisdom: following adversity, methodical persistence tempered by patience prevails, with daily challenges to one’s prior limits paving the path to triumph.
Philosophical Core
True victory transcends crossing the finish line foremost; it resides in quotidian commitment. Endurance accrues silently, stride by stride. Life’s ultimate contest valorizes persistence above perfection, diligence beyond mere results.
Life is like a running race,we face gains and losses every day, rising and falling through each stage—success is built through effort and growth along the way.I’ve never believed in instant fame, only in working hard, building day by day.Life is a marathon —Guided by patience and perseverance all the way.In this life race,I’ve thought of giving up,even stopping halfway.Yet I keep walking my own path, searching for my own meaning and worth.Don’t envy the glory of others, won’t forget the struggles behind their name.I give my full effort and never compare with anyone, only challenge the person you were yesterday.Don’t envy the glory of others, won’t forget the struggles behind their name.I give my full effort and never compare with anyone, only challenge the person you were yesterday. There are no miracles—only perseverance brings success.

World Heart Day 2026-27 Carnival cum Run for Heart performance song (planned)
CPR education anthem with infectious “brainwashing” song with rhythm at 110 beats per minute, precisely matching American Heart Association’s optimal 100-120 compressions/min guideline—transforming medical knowledge into unforgettable public education song.
Inspiration Narrative
In the real world, most cardiac arrest patients collapse without medical personnel nearby. Precious golden minutes are often lost because bystanders hesitate or lack confidence.
We believe that every timely act of help can change a life—and even the fate of an entire family.
Philosophical Core
Through lyrics and rhythm, the song aims to deliver public education around one core idea: every second counts, and every person can be a potential lifesaver. It transforms medical knowledge into memorable, emotionally resonant lines and grooves, so that the heartbeat of the music mirrors the rhythm of CPR. In doing so, it helps listeners internalize key lifesaving messages—not just as information, but as instinct.
Signature Mantra
“110 per minute — in the chain of survival, every minute counts. We can turn hesitation into COMPASSION.”
With your hands, hold up a fallen heart. No response, no breath — call for help, start. Place your hands at the center of chest, One hundred and ten per minute. Press down five centimeters, let it fully recoil with it. AED arrives, deliver shock when it’s safe. CPR for everyone — no need to wait for doctors. Remember this: One hundred and ten per minute (Repeat 8 times). Press one, press two, then press three. Follow the rhythm, that’s the key. You and me together, keep the mnemonic in mind. Bring back circulation, till help arrives in time. One hundred and ten per minute. Every minute in the chain of survival. We all share the fight. One hundred and ten per minute. Together,we bring hearts back alive
(Blue Eyes)
World Heart Day 2024-25 Carnival cum Run for Heart performance song
Blue Eyes pays tribute to first responders and emergency medical staff, capturing the adrenaline and humanity of lifesaving in critical moments. Blue Eyes symbolizes ambulance flashing lights and quiet courage behind each rescue—an anthem of selflessness amid chaos.
Inspiration Narrative
In medicine, as in life, success comes from collective effort. The song highlights the chain of survival in cardiac emergencies, framing successful rescue as a team victory rather than a solitary act of heroism.
Philosophical Core
Gratitude should not go only to doctors, but also to the unsung heroes—ambulance crews, nurses, and first responders—who take the first brave steps to save lives.
Signature Mantra
“Ambulances, first step of the chain of survival— APPRECIATION for the hard work of our unsung heroes.”
The whole city’s likely asleep, thanks to you, I can still hold on.Sudden halts, sudden changes, lights extinguish,Heart and mind both failing all at once. We’re meant to be with each other every day,yet illness keeps on changing our fate.Blue eyes — your tireless promise to watch and guard, through every battle, you fight to change my fate.Your shadow flies with lightning speed, flashing ambulance lights marking your fleeting deed.I drift semi-conscious through this ride, racing to the hospital, fighting against time.Sudden change in weather, sun and rain— urging me home.Once the heart stops, mind and soul could be gone in seconds. We’re meant to be together from dawn till night, wealth and glory mean nothing when life departs. The truth becomes obvious as we fade out, flames die down, and the heart stops.Your work never stops, holding hope to change our fate.Blue eyes — your tireless promise to watch and guard, through every battle, you fight to change my fate.Your shadow flies with lightning speed, flashing ambulance lights marking your fleeting deed.Blue eyes — your tireless promise to watch and guard, through every battle, you fight to change my fate.Your shadow flies with lightning speed, flashing ambulance lights marking your fleeting deed.
(Legacy and Voyage)
30th Anniversary Song of the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences
This work features two versions: original vocal and pure instrumental, composed for the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences’ 30th Anniversary (est. 1996, formerly the Bacteriological Institute of 1906, established post-1894 Tai Ping Shan plague).
It bridges the history and progress of Hong Kong medicine—from epidemics to innovation—paying tribute to generations of physicians who carry their dreams into the future. The Edwardian building, declared a monument in 1990, harmoniously blends Western classical arches and gables with Chinese-style courtyard greenery, embodying the city’s East meets West spirit.
Inspiration Narrative
Opens with museum clock’s resonant toll (seven strikes, 2-sec intervals). Four instruments dialogue: Eastern dizi (Cantonese flute), guzheng (pentatonic zen zither), Western flute (elegant harmonies), guitar (arpeggiated classical)—symbolizing legacy’s echoes evolving to new voyages. East-meets-West fusion mirrors building/city’s unique character.
Philosophical Core
Through music, we wish our native city Hong Kong—this Pearl of the Orient—to keep shining.
Red brick walls softly tell of doctors’ dreams through generations. Glass along the corridor preserves the hundred years’ footprints. Green-tiled eaves that shelter us from storms Lead us onward — from history to future.Arched doorways stand through time, bearing witness to our fight through epidemics. Finials, shaped like bottles high above, keep the promise to build Hong Kong strong. Pillars and stairs within these halls uphold the heart of scientific research. With our dreams, we journey on.We pass the white coat on, linking the future with hope. You and I have walked together thirty years, still writing this living poem — Inheriting the past, and setting sail anew. Passing on — sailing forth again.
A heartfelt tribute to friends, mentors, and loved ones who journey beside us through darkest moments. The song embodies the belief: even in confusion and despair, mutual support illuminates the path forward.
Inspiration Narrative
Everyone faces their own darkest moments.
This piece is especially dedicated to patients fighting depression and cancer—reminding them that dawn always follows the longest night.
No one walks alone when compassion and companionship reach out a hand.
Philosophical Core
“I sincerely thank everyone supporting me through highs and lows. Your encouragement gives strength to persevere bravely. May this song light your heart too.”
Signature Mantra
“In your darkest moments, remember you’re not alone. Let GRATITUDE guide you toward those who have always stood by your side.”
I once walked through the darkness, lost on my way, searching for the shape of the light through the gray. You stayed by my side when I stumbled and fell, gave me the courage to rise and be well. Thanks for being with me,searching through the darkness as we go,you’re the ray of dawn that warms my heart.Through wind and rain, we keep moving on,And on this rugged road, I never feel alone. Now I’m no longer lost — I’ve found my way, building up tomorrow, hand in hand we’ll stay.I fought against the tide, and you stood by my side,With your faith, I’m back on track again. No longer bound by hardship, we’ve found our way,With both hands, we build tomorrow and never stray.Never giving up the fight against the flow, thank you for always standing by me.Now we’re back on track again. Thanks for being with me,searching through the darkness as we go,you’re the ray of dawn that warms my heart.Through wind and rain, we keep moving on,And on this rugged road, I never feel alone. You’ll never walk alone.

初心 (Heart Primeval)
15th Anniversary song of HKSTENT (Hong Kong Society of Transcatheter Endo-cardiovascular Therapeutics)

Musical Concept
Signature Mantra
“No miracles—only PERSEVERANCE brings success.”
(Life Race)
Composer / Arranger / Producer: Barry Chung
Lyrics: TS@Hurdles (謝德新醫生)
(Life Race)
(English translation)
(One Hundred and Ten per Minute)
World Heart Day 2026-27 Carnival cum Run for Heart performance song (planned)
Musical Concept
(One Hundred and Ten per Minute)

Lyrics: TS@Hurdles (謝德新醫生)
(One Hundred and Ten per Minute)
(English translation)
Musical Concept

(Blue Eyes)
(English translation)
Musical Concept
Signature Mantra
“HOPE that this legacy echoes into bold voyages.”

(Legacy and Voyage)
(English translation)
